Set in Bali in the 1930s, Samsara follows Darta, a young man from a poor family who falls in love with Sinta, a woman born into a wealthy aristocratic family. Their love is challenged by social inequality and the rejection of Sinta’s parents.
Driven by desperation, Darta enters into a dark pact with the Monkey King through a mystical ritual to gain wealth and win Sinta’s family’s approval. However, his ambition comes at a devastating cost, bringing tragedy upon the family he has fought so hard to build.
Blending silent cinema, expressive physical movement, Balinese mythology, traditional music, and electronic soundscapes, Samsara explores love, ambition, sacrifice, and the consequences of attempting to transcend one’s destiny
