A 12-year-old girl named Pakis sets out to find her father, who has disappeared at sea. Following a Bajo ritual, she uses a mirror, hoping to catch a glimpse of where he might be. But the image she longs to see never appears. Pakis also feels that her mother, Tayung, is constantly trying to crush her hopes and discourage her search, unaware that Tayung is actually trying to shield her from the truth of what happened. In her own denial, Tayung wears white powder on her face, following a tradition of the Bajo people. Still, Pakis refuses to give up hope. Together with her best friend, Lumo, she continues searching for answers in the waters of Wakatobi. The tension between Pakis and her mother grows more complicated when Tudo, a dolphin researcher, enters their lives. The four become intertwined through their everyday lives, each carrying a different understanding of the sea. Yet they all come to share one belief: that it is the sea that ultimately helps them discover who they are.
