The Sea Speaks His Name

Yogyakarta, late 1990s. The atmosphere on university campuses grows increasingly tense following the arrest of three students for distributing banned books. Biru Laut (Reza Rahadian), a student with a passion for reading and writing, decides to join the Winatra study group. Alongside Daniel (Kevin Julio), Alex (Ben Nugroho), Sunu (Dewa Dayana), and their fellow activists, Laut comes to realize that fighting for freedom of expression is no easy task.

Despite the growing threats, they continue their struggle until one night, Laut and several of his friends suddenly disappear without a trace. His father (Arswendy Bening Swara), mother (Christine Hakim), younger sister Asmara Jati (Yunita Siregar), and their friends are left to endure a long and painful search for answers about the fate of those who have disappeared.
